But the tears

keep

falling

until they are

all

that

I am.

Keeping Mum

Mum wraps her arms around me

and makes soft noises as she

pats my shuddery-juddery back.

‘What are all these tears about?’

she murmurs.

‘N ... n ... n ... oth ... th ... th ... ing.’

‘Are you worried about something?’

‘Tell her, Leroy,’ Ruby breathes,

gripping my cold jellyfish hand.

‘Is something happening at school?’

Ruby squeezes.

I shake my head.
